Gap Inc. (San Francisco) announced Tuesday that Maggie Gauger is onboarding as CEO and Global Brand President of its athleisure and active wear brand Athleta. Gauger’s new role will be effective Aug. 1 as Chris Blakeslee steps down.

Gauger previously held leadership roles in women’s sporting retail and most recently served as the Head of North America Women’s Business at Nike. Outgoing President and CEO Chris Blakeslee will remain as an advisor during the transition.

“I’m energized to bring my experience working at the intersection of sport, style and culture to Athleta – a brand with strong purpose and still so much untapped potential,” Gauger said in a company press release. “Athleta has an unwavering mission focused on the power of women – not just as athletes, but as leaders, creators, and change-makers. And I can’t wait to work with the incredible Athleta team to grow, to lead, and to inspire the next generation through the power of product and community.”
