Safeway Inc. (Chicago) has named Brian Baer president of its Dominick’s Finer Foods division. Baer joined the company in 2001 as vp of financial planning and analysis for another division; he was promoted to cfo of Dominick’s in 2008, according to Progressive Grocer.

Baer became the grocery chain’s acting president when Don Keprta resigned last November, leading Steve Burd, Safeway’s ceo, to describe him as “ideally-suited for the leadership role at Dominick’s.”

Baer also has experience with Marriott Corp., The Carlyle Group and Price-Waterhouse Coopers, where he held various financial-management positions.
