Barneys Launches Holiday Windows on Instagram

Retailer’s futuristic multimedia display interacts with shoppers

Barneys New York has unveiled a multimedia program for its 2013 holiday windows campaign.

As reported in Women’s Wear Daily, videos of the four Madison Avenue windows are being shown on the retailer’s Instagram channel, BarneysNYofficial.

Barneys said it wants to ensure that its “A New York Holiday” campaign is accessible to a global audience beyond Madison Avenue.

This year’s program includes a futuristic 3-D “Floating City” window, complete with geodesic dome. The model of the city, made out of paper, appears to be floating in space. Color changes, accompanied by a special sound track, chart the change of seasons.

Another window features a BNY NYC Santa’s sleigh that WWD says resembles the Batmobile. Through embedded cameras and an LED screen, shoppers become passengers on the sleigh ride and their images are sent to the shoppers’ email addresses and/or can be printed out and picked up on the ninth floor of the store.
