Following the death of Bed Bath & Beyond’s (Union, N.J.) CFO Gustavo Arnal, the company has named its current Senior VP of Finance and Chief Accounting Officer, Laura Crossen, as the company’s interim Chief Financial Officer.

Crossen joined Bed Bath & Beyond in 2001. She will continue as the company’s Principal Accounting Officer during her interim role as CFO. Prior to joining Bed Bath & Beyond, Crossen was a Senior VP of Finance at Delia’s (New York).

Arnal’s death came days after Bed Bath & Beyond announced plans to cut its corporate and supply chain workforce by at least 20 percent and shutter 150 lower-producing stores.

In a statement from Bed Bath & Beyond, Harriet Edelman, the Independent Chair of the Board of Directors, said: “I wish to extend our sincerest condolences to Gustavo’s family. Gustavo will be remembered by all he worked with for his leadership, talent and stewardship of our company.”
