Bed Bath & Beyond (Union, N.J.) has named Sue Gove President and CEO. She’s held those titles on an interim basis for the past four months, when she replaced Mark Tritton, who was ousted after the home goods retailer suffered back-to-back quarters of plunging sales.

“Sue is the best person to serve at the helm of Bed Bath & Beyond and continue leading the company,” said Harriet Edelman, Independent Chair of the specialty retailer’s board. “During her tenure as interim CEO, Sue took consequential actions to increase liquidity and establish the groundwork to improve customer loyalty, traffic and market share.”

According to Gove’s bio on the BB&B website, she is the founder of Excelsior Advisor LLC, a retail consulting and advisory firm, where she has advised clients on key issues impacting the retail industry since 2014. She also served as a Senior Advisor for Alvarez & Marsal, a global professional services firm, from March 2017 to March 2019.

Prior to her consulting career, Gove spent more than 30 years in the retail industry where she served in senior financial, operating and strategic roles, leading to her positions as President and CEO of Golfsmith International Holdings and COO of Zale Corporation.

The last several months have been tumultuous for Bed Bath & Beyond. In addition to announcing plans to close 150 stores, the retailer’s CFO committed suicide after inside-trader allegations against him had surfaced.
