Best Buy founder Richard Schulze has resigned as chairman of the company after an internal investigation found he knew about misconduct by the electronic retailer’s former ceo.

Former ceo Brian Dunn left the company in April after it was made public that he had an improper relationship with a female employee. Schulze learned about the relationship in December 2011, reports The New York Times, and confronted Dunn, who denied the allegation.

Schulze will remain on the board through June 2013, when his current term expires.
