Best Buy Launches Test Store in Minnesota

Borrows Apple's Genius Bar concept

Best Buy (Richfield, Minn.) has launched a test store near its headquarters that borrows its store design from the popular Apple stores, The Wall Street Journal reports. A Solution Central help desk, mimicking Apple’s Genius Bar, will be staffed with Geek Squad employees. Additional changes include multiple checkout locations, rather than a single line at the front of the store, and an expanded tablet and phone sections, The Journal reports.

The electronics retailer also recently announced plans to lay off 24,000 employees, including approximately 3 percent of its Geek Squad staff, according to Reuters. In March, Best Buy announced that 50 big-box stores would be closed.
