PROJECT SCOPE: The Bucherer Time Dome in Las Vegas had much to live up to: Maintaining the historic brand DNA of luxury watch retailer Bucherer (Lucerne, Switzerland) while showcasing technical innovation through a contemporary, luxurious retail experience. During its 14-month-long renovation, the brand sought to infuse timeless details with modern technology. “The impressive staircase that leads to the jewelry level and the spectacular chandelier are reminiscent of the well-known show stages in Las Vegas,” says Patrick M. Graf, Chief Commercial Officer, Bucherer. “The luxurious and coordinated materials draw a common thread across all brands, a concept that makes this flagship one of a kind.”

Unique Challenges:
With modern luxury comes a need for perfection. It took a year to develop and manufacture the gradated storefront glass and achieve a seamless, smooth gradation on the entire length of the material. If that wasn’t enough of an undertaking, the project also needed to maximize the store’s square footage by 1000 square feet. As such, the mezzanine was entirely rebuilt with a new staircase and chandelier, upping the space’s final size to 18,848 square feet. In addition, the boulders creating the tables proved to be particularly tricky, according to Graf, as they needed to be sculpted to scale (by two commissioned Italian stone masons) to fit in the space without losing their natural aesthetic. The stones were carefully shaped and sized two weeks before installation.

Unique Characteristics: The staircase and hovering chandelier are the showstoppers, recalling the store’s location in Las Vegas among the city’s grand stages. The double staircase “brings order to this large space that is further enhanced by the height, the artisanal feel of the plastered walls and softness of all the curved surfaces and edges,” says Graf. “To some extent, experiencing the space is comparable to walking into a large cathedral.”
