New York’s recent streak of frigid weather caused a pipe to burst inside Puma’s Fifth Avenue flagship store, resulting in its temporary closure, Footwear News reports. The two-level, 24,500-square-foot flagship, at Fifth Avenue (corner of 49th Street), opened in 2019.

In a statement to FN, a Puma representative confirmed that the store is “closed until further notice” because of water damage in the building caused by a burst pipe. “We are currently assessing the damage,” the rep said. (The temporary closing is also noted on the Puma website’s store locator.)

Longtime readers of VMSD may recall our coverage of this high-profile space, which was featured on our website in January 2020 and named winner in its category in our annual Renovation Competition later that same year. (The site, which features 27-foot-high ceilings, was previously occupied by American Girl.)
