Specialty retailer to expand by 20 percent this year; Soma to become Soma Intimates

Chico's FAS Inc. (Fort Myers, Fla.) announced it will expand its square footage by more than 20 percent in 2007, adding up to 145 new stores. That would include 55 – 60 Chico’s stores, another 55 – 60 White House/Black Market stores and about 20 Soma by Chico's locations.

Also, the company said, Soma will be renamed Soma Intimates.

“We want to encourage the mindframe of Soma as an intimates store, rather than a Chico's store,” said evp and cfo Charles Kleman, during a presentation at the annual Institutional Investors Conference in Atlanta.

Chico's also said it will add petite sizes to select White House/Black Market locations in June and to Chico's in 2008.
