DERIVING THE FIRST part of its name from a rectangular jade artifact that symbolizes divine authority or consciousness, Cong Banquet features a refined design honoring traditional aesthetics, natural materials and striking silhouettes.

1. MODERN TRADITIONS

Traditional Chinese artwork and decor are placed beside contemporary designs to fuse the past and present, producing “an authentic experience of local culture, presenting an elegant, modern dining environment rooted in time-honored principles,” says Ge Jianwei, Principal Designer, Associate Interior Design (Hangzhou, China).

2. GET COMFY

The seating in the dining space is curved to provide the ultimate in comfortable seating: Seating throughout the space was picked for the restaurant’s minimalist style and for the chairs’ structural simplicity, according to Ge.

3. WINDOWS TO THE SOUL

The vast windows invoke the traditional Chinese architectural concept that the courtyard is an extension of the interior. Cong Banquet’s geometric patterns mirror a jade cong and are found throughout the courtyard as well as the interior, creating a natural flow from inside to out.

4. TRUE COLORS

Inspired by the natural colors of soil, dark greens and browns support a refined environment. Incorporating these elements required careful consideration to build a restaurant that “honors the spirit and aesthetics of Chinese traditions,” says Ge.

4. STEPPING STONE

Dark-grain wood is used throughout to create a luxe atmosphere. Stone details appear to emerge from the walls and floors, purposefully disrupting the symmetrical design. These natural materials also provide diverse textures and recall the location’s proximity to nature.
