CVS Pharmacy (Woonsocket, R.I.) said it has completed its acquisition of select assets of the now-closed Rite Aid chain nationwide, including 63 Rite Aid and its affiliated Bartell Drugs stores in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. In addition, CVS said it has acquired the prescription files of 626 former Rite Aid and Bartell pharmacies in 15 states, all of which adds up to its serving more than 9 million former customers of the two chains.

Those moves mean CVS is “helping maintain and expand access to convenient and trusted pharmacy care across the U.S. and growing our retail footprint and presence in local communities,” CVS Health EVP and President, Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness Len Shankman said in a news release. “From our innovative pharmacy care programs to our exclusive store brand products, we look forward to showing Rite Aid and Bartell Drugs patients and customers all that CVS has to offer.”

CVS also noted that it has hired more than 3500 former Rite Aid and Bartell Drug employees for its pharmacy operations.
