Denny’s (Spartanburg, S.C.), is downsizing its physical footprint by closing 150 underperforming restaurants by the end of next year, report a variety of publications, including the Los Angeles Times. That move – along with another no longer requiring its outlets to be open 24/7 – comes amidst declining revenues and changing consumer habits, the company said in reporting lower-than-expected earnings for its third quarter.

Denny’s did not disclose specifically which of its 1580 restaurants would be closed, but EVP Steve Dunn said the company was targeting underperforming locations that are straining its finances. Many of the eateries to be shuttered are either too old to be remodeled or are in unprofitable areas, Dunn told the Times.
