Discount chain plans 450 new stores in 2009

Dollar General (Goodlettsville, Tenn.), which reported rising revenues and profits for its fiscal fourth quarter, said it plans to open 450 new stores in 2009 and relocate or remodel 400 more. The discount retailer, which currently operates about 8,400 stores in 35 states, said its fourth quarter sales totaled $2.85 billion, an increase of 11 percent, while its net income soared by 47 percent, to just under $82 million.
