Designers turn an outdated pub into a moody night-life destination

THE WORD ERMA IN the Sichuan dialect translates to “being slightly drunk,” which seems to be the ideal title for Ermapub. Located in the Taikoo Li Sanlitun shopping center in Beijing, the bar and eatery worked with HDC Design (Chengdu, China) to reinvigorate its old design. The moody space starts with a striking façade melding classic red brick and dark metal. The main bar counter, set in an L-shaped corner on the ground floor, is highlighted by four oversized funnel-shaped lanterns. Division of the space was inspired by traditional Chinese window lattices, seen through repeating geometric lines.
