Hudson Group acquires W.H. Smith airport news shops in North America

The Hudson Group (East Rutherford, N.J.), proprietor of more than 430 airport-based news, book and gift stores, has acquired the North American airport retailing business of WHSmith PLC (London).

The 155 WH Smith stores in 23 airports are scheduled to be transitioned over the month of December. All news and gift stores will be converted into the Hudson News brand. All bookstores will be changed to Hudson Booksellers.

“We are extremely honored and proud to become partners with those airports associated with this acquisition,” said Joseph DiDomizio, Hudson Group executive vp. “The transition will be managed efficiently unnoticeable to the airports, employees and our customers alike.”

The airports to be transitioned in this acquisition are Birmingham (Ala.) International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, Denver International Airport, Greenville-Spartanburg (S.C.) International Airport, Gulfport-Biloxi (Miss.) Regional Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Indianapolis International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport (New York), LaGuardia Airport (New York), Mobile (Ala.) Regional Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, McCarran International Airport (Las Vegas), Newark (N.J.) Liberty International Airport, O'Hare International Airport (Chicago), Omaha (Neb.) Airport Eppley Airfield, Orlando International Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport, Raleigh-Durham (N.C.) International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Shreveport (La.) Regional Airport and Vancouver (B.C.) International Airport.
