An immersive version of a high-profile Mexico City seafood restaurant will open March 28 at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The new Cantina Contramar brings together three of Mexico’s most influential creative voices, project backers said in a news release: Chef Gabriela Cámara, architect Frida Escobedo and maestra tequilera Bertha González Nieves from Casa Dragones.

Frida Escobedo Studio – an architecture firm whose current projects include creating the new Modern and Contemporary Art Wing at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City – worked to infuse the restaurant with the feel of a traditional Mexican cantina, with a bright, expansive space that fosters interaction and a see-and-be-seen vibe. The space features an open kitchen, a comal station and a bar.

“In a city characterized by its ability to contain worlds within worlds, Cantina Contramar presents a gateway to Mexican culture, its design heritage and world-famous hospitality,” said Escobedo.

Details on the size of the space and dining capacity were not immediately available. The original Cantina Contramar has operated for 27 years in Mexico City’s Roma Norte.
