One of the simplest, most impactful changes you can make to your retail space is to refresh your color palette, and this year at the International Retail Design Conference, Oct. 9-10, color takes center stage. Along with facilitators Andrea Magno, Director of Color Marketing & Development, Benjamin Moore & Co. and Faith Huddleston, Studio Leader, Lifestyle & Wellness, NELSON Worldwide, attendees will take an immersive look at how to transform your customers’ experience through the thoughtful use of color psychology.

But if you’re looking to get started right away on your color exploration – these four options are a great place to begin:

  1. Bold Red

Known for its ability to increase heart rates and stimulate impulse buying, red can be a perfect color for sale signs, window displays or key areas where you want to drive action. A splash of red can create a sense of urgency, encouraging customers to make quick decisions.

  1. Sunny Yellow and Orange

Yellow, the color of happiness and optimism, is hard to ignore – making it an excellent choice for window displays and entrance areas. Yellow’s close cousin, orange, combines the zip of red with the sunshine of yellow for a high-energy, creative collaboration – ideal for highlighting new arrivals!

  1. Calming Blue

Traditionally considered the color of trust, blue can help bring a chill, relaxing tone to your store – whether you opt for light blues that promote tranquility or deep blues that convey sophistication. Consider using blue for fitting rooms, customer service areas, or any part of your store where you want to encourage customers to linger and explore.

  1. Refreshing Green

Green, the color of nature and renewal, is associated with balance and harmony – especially in its cooler, softer hues. It’s a fabulous choice for areas where you want customers to feel relaxed and comfortable – like reading nooks, seating areas, or near organic and eco-friendly products.

So go ahead, experiment! Whether you’re look for a full refresh or just create a pop of excitement, color can help your store shine. We look forward to hearing about your experience at IRDC 2024!
