Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers (Wichita, Kan.) has inked a development agreement to open five new restaurants in Alberta, Canada. Those restaurants will be operated by franchisee ZZ Hospitality, in conjunction with North 49 Frozen Custard and Steakburgers.

This announcement follows Freddy’s signing last year of a master franchise/development agreement with North 49 to bring at least 20 Freddy’s to the country.

“Bringing an iconic brand like Freddy’s into Canadian territories has been an exhilarating journey, and we feel thrilled to be closer to debuting our first franchise location in Alberta,” said North 49 Franchise Owner Gregg Most. “It’s a pleasure to work with ZZA Hospitality as we realize our goal of expanding Freddy’s Canadian footprint.”

ZZA Hospitality currently operates several quick-service restaurant franchises and will be developing the five new Freddy’s locations in as many years.

Freddy’s, which offers cooked-to-order steakburgers, all-beef hotdogs, shoestring fries and freshly churned frozen custard treats, opened more than 60 new locations in 2023. It aims to bring its restaurant count to more than 800 units by 2026. (That’s up from the 500-plus outlets it currently has in 36 U.S. states.)
