A trio of grocery chains have either recently opened new stores or unveiled plans for future expansion. They are:

* Publix (Lakeland, Fla.), which will take the wraps off its latest locale in its home state, in Panama City. The store is slated for the Watersound West Bay Center, which is being developed by The St. Joe Co. and is set to open next year. The chain has about 1460 locations, including roughly 900 in Florida.

* Supermercado Nuestra Familia, a unit of SpartanNash (Byron, Mich.), has rolled out its fifth store in Topeka, Kansas. The Hispanic-oriented grocer’s latest store has 50,000 square feet of space.

* The Fresh Market (Greensboro, N.C.), which has opened two new stores, in Lexington, Ky., and in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. In covering the news, Progressive Grocer noted that the pair of openings come on the heels of the chain closing two underperforming stores in October, in the Chicago suburb of Naperville and in the Boston suburb of Framingham, Mass. Overall, the brand has just under 170 stores in 22 states.
