Grocery Updates: Openings, Renos

A trio of grocery chains have recently unveiled plans to either add new stores or renovate some existing ones. They are:

Harris Teeter (Matthews, N.C.), which is renovating its 12 stores in and around Charleston, S.C. The grocer first entered the Lowcountry market in 1977; the store refreshes will include updates and upgrades to their self-checkouts, produce displays and food cases. Overall, the Kroger Co. unit has 250-plus stores along the Eastern Seaboard.

Presidente Supermarkets (Miami), which has opened a 26,000 square foot store in Hialeah, its fourth locale in that city. The Hispanic-owned chain also has plans for two new locales in Miami-Dade County later this year. Overall, the grocer has 44 locales in Florida.

T&T Supermarkets (Richmond, B.C.), which is adding another store in California, in Chino. The Asian grocery will occupy spaces that previously housed a Best Buy and Bed Bath & Beyond and have been unified into a single, 61,000-square-foot store. The new store by T&T, a unit of Canada’s Loblaw Co. Inc., is one of six locations the grocer plans to open in the Western U.S. (In Canada, the chain has nearly 40 stores.)
