J.C. Penney (Plano, Texas), on plan to build 14 new stores in 2001 (at a cost of $100 million), will open its new Fort Steuben Mall store (Steubenville, Ohio) next week.

This store, as all the other new stores, features wider aisles, improved lighting and a larger, clearer signage package. Dockers, St. John's Bay, Alfred Dunner, Nike, Oshkosh, Arizona Jean Co., Skechers and Samsonite are among the major brands featured in jeans, career sportswear, lingerie, towels, window treatments and men's business and casual wear departments.

Although smaller, the new stores will feature new-look styling salons and facilities for facials and pedicures. JCPenney has been a fixture in Steubenville since 1926, when a store opened on North Fourth Street. The store moved from downtown to Fort Steuben Mall in 1983.
