Designed by Sync Design Studio, the Jawed Habib Salon in Delhi, India, creates a welcoming and hip interior for clients seeking a new hairdo. Its attention-grabbing ceiling comprises locally sourced pine, which includes rafters bisected perpendicularly with secondary rafters demarcating the makeup section; this design stops above the staircase in gradual lengths. Shades of gray dominate the space while everything is bathed in a soft yellow illumination, meant to create a “bouncy” and “crisp” aesthetic. Exposed ceiling hardware is painted in bentonite gray, a nod to the salon’s overall industrial motif.

Its gas mask iconography was meant to spread awareness of the pollution levels in Delhi, according to Sync Design Studio. “We would like to make a small step towards making people aware that things need to be made right; we certainly don’t like these masks as a part of our lifestyle.”
