While it continues working on a major update to its flagship store in Freeport, Maine, outdoors retailer L.L. Bean plans to keep growing its network of physical stores across the country, report a variety of news sources, including RetailDive.com. The retailer, which opened seven new stores this year, plans eight additional stores across the country next year, including its first stores in Alabama and Tennessee, and then another eight to 10 in 2027.

Next year’s new locations will open in Huntsville, Ala.; Glen Mills, Pa.; Maple Grove, Minn.; Franklin, Tenn.; Beavercreek, Ohio; Naperville, Ill.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Ann Arbor, Mich.

L.L.Bean Chief Retail Officer Greg Elder called physical stores “an essential part of our growth strategy,” RetailDive.com reports.

Next year’s new stores will bring the retailer’s total to 76 in 21 states.

As mentioned, the retailer’s headquarters store in Freeport is closed as the company undertakes what it calls a “Re-Boot″ that won’t be finished until late 2026. Until then, according to the brand’s website, shoppers stopping in Freeport can visit a field-house-sized tent behind the construction site that’s designated as Camp L.L. Bean, which sells apparel and outerwear, as well as three other temporary spaces selling bike/boat and ski equipment, home goods and hunting and fishing merch, respectively.
