Herald Square was brought to life on Sunday as Macy's unveiled its 2007 holiday windows. The streets at 34th and Broadway were closed for 30 minutes as throngs of onlookers experienced “Santa's Big Night,” a series of windows that include magical rollercoaster rides and fantastic space journeys. (Martians also love the holidays.)

One window features a “Christmas Spirit Meter,” while another shows Christmas celebrations in both the northern and southern hemispheres. The festivities were capped off by a surprise visit from the most famous traveler from the North Pole. To the delight of those assembled, Santa appeared on the third floor balcony of the venerable Macy’s flagship store to wish all a Merry Christmas.
