French brand’s shops replace those it had in Bay stores

French contemporary fashion brand Maje (Paris) is opening shop-in-shops at three Holt Renfrew (Toronto) department stores in Canada, Women’s Wear Daily reports. The move comes on the heels of the closure of its previous retail partner in Canada, Hudson’s Bay, which shuttered its stores earlier this year.

Maje’s first shop-in-shop opened Aug. 15 near Toronto, at Square One Mississauga mall. Still to come are locales at the Holt Renfrews in downtown Calgary, Alb., on Aug. 22 and downtown Montreal on Aug. 29.

“We are incredibly excited to be launching Maje within Holt Renfrew as we continue to grow our presence in Canada,” Laura Yetman, VP of Retail and Business Development at parent company SMCP North America. “The partnership is a natural fit.”

In addition to the locales in the Holt Renfrew partners, Maje has five full-price stand-alone boutiques and two outlet stores in Canada. Overall, it has 300-plus stores, including a significant presence in its home country.

Under SMCP CEO Isabelle Guichot, the company is looking to grow in the Americas after scaling back in China, WWD reported.
