Marvin Traub Dies at 87

Former Bloomingdale’s chairman and ceo helped transform department store industry

Marvin S. Traub, credited with transforming Bloomingdale’s into a trendsetting international retail name, died on Wednesday at his home on New York’s Upper East Side, The New York Times reports. He died from bladder cancer, Amy Hafkin, general manager of Marvin Traub Associates, the consulting firm he founded in 1992, told The Times.

A former chairman and chief executive of Bloomingdale’s, Traub is regarded as one the industry’s most creative visionaries for the events and visual displays he created for Bloomingdale’s New York flagship, at 59th Street and Lexington Avenue.

Born in New York on April 14, 1925, he is the only child of Sam and Bea Traub.
