Mattress Warehouse (Frederick, Md.) announced it has acquired 176 additional stores run by two competing brands, giving it 500-plus locations nationwide. Mattress Warehouse was able to buy the stores because Tempur Sealy (now known as Somnigroup) agreed to divest them to get regulator’s approval to make its now-completed merger with Mattress Firm.

Specifically, the agreement involves Tempur selling all 103 Sleep Outfitters stores and that brand’s distribution centers and corporate offices, along with 73 Mattress Firm outlets.

Mattress Warehouse said the expansion strengthens its presence along the Eastern Seaboard, and also westward in such markets as Chicago and Milwaukee.

“This is a transformative moment in our growth story,” said Mattress Warehouse President and CEO Bill Papettas.
