New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art recently announced its Costume Institute’s spring 2023 exhibition will highlight the work of German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

“Karl Lagerfeld was one of the most captivating, prolific, and recognizable forces in fashion and culture,” says Max Hollein, Director of The Met. “This immersive exhibition will unpack his singular artistic practice, inviting the public to experience an essential part of Lagerfeld’s boundless imagination and passion for innovation.”

Featuring approximately 150 works and fashion pieces paired with sketches, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” explores the designer’s stylistic language and themes spanning from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019.  Lagerfeld, known as much for his extraordinary designs as his legendary persona, passed away at age of 86 in 2019. The exhibit will run May 5, 2023 through July 16, 2023.

The exhibition and the benefit are sponsored by Chanel, Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld and Conde Nast. A Met Gala benefiting the Costume Institute will take place May 1, 2023.
