ALL ABOARD! Paris-based retailer Louis Vuitton opened a store shaped like a cruise ship in Shanghai’s Nanjing West Road business district, Taikoo Hui, in late June. Dubbed “The Louis” and encompassing more than 17,000 square feet and towering nearly 100 feet tall, the experience combines retail, hospitality and exhibition spaces spread across three levels, the lower two of which are dedicated to the exploration of the brand’s storied history. Customer interaction is abound with live demos by artisans in various testing and workshop areas.

Complete with a café (Le Café Louis Vuitton) and gift shop, the new ship-shaped store also features a monogram on its expansive hull and a cabin constructed to look like iconic LV trunks.

According to the Louis Vuitton in-house design team, as reported by Forbes, the cruise liner pays homage to the port culture of Shanghai while offering a nod to the retailer’s history of supplying trunks intended for oceanic journeys.
