On Our Radar: Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam

The department store’s reopened fifth floor targets millennial and Gen Z shoppers with comforting design elements and innovative styles

“New Contemporary” is the reopened fifth floor of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam, catering to young adults flocking to the Gangnam region in Seoul. The floor’s design is meant to evoke a sense of home with bright, diffused overhead lighting, curved walls that narrow and widen and a strong color palette throughout the space.

Blending innovation with tradition, the store replaces traditional architectural pillars with Shinsegae’s design aesthetic, evoking a fresh style to the department store. Ultimately, the new fifth floor aims to become a dedicated space where millennials and Gen Z can shop for the latest fashion trends.
