Piggly Wiggly Midwest (Sheboygan, Wis.) has partnered with retail automation company Focal Systems (San Francisco) to pilot a new operating system in the grocer’s Illinois and Wisconsin stores.

The system “digitizes the entire store” in order to improve inventory management, optimize ordering, enhance merchandising and support in-store labor, Focal Systems said in a release.

“Our partnership with Focal Systems will enable us to provide an even better shopper experience by leveraging the most innovative retail automation technology available,” said Mark McGown,  Senior VP of Retail for C&S Wholesale Grocers, which operates Piggly Wiggly Midwest corporate stores and services independent franchisees under a chain-style model.

Focal Systems recently rolled out its platform at the Cooportunity Market, an organic food cooperative in Los Angeles. To date, the company has raised more than $40 million in venture capital funding.
