Planet Fitness to Purchase Sunshine Fitness

Planet Fitness (Hampton, N.H.) is planning to acquire franchise Sunshine Fitness, according to CNBC. Sunshine Fitness is currently an operator of more than 100 Planet Fitness locations, primarily in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. The cash-and-stock deal is reportedly valued at $800 million.

During 2021, Planet Fitness opened 132 locations and ended the year with an increase of 1.7 million members, totaling 15.2 million. After this latest acquisition, Planet Fitness will own more than 200 corporate locations.

Chief Executive Chris Rondeau says, “owning corporate stores is an important part of our strategy, as it gives us both relevancy and credibility when making decisions that impact the entire system.”
