Convenience-store chain QuikTrip (Tulsa, Okla.) is taking the wraps off its next-gen store design at a soon-to-be-built locale in suburban St. Louis, reports C-Store Dive. Work on the food-focused, 6400-square-foot next-gen store (which is about 1000 square feet larger than the chain’s previous layout), is slated to start this summer in Crestwood, Mo., a southwest suburb of St. Louis.

The company’s QT Kitchens foodservice program — featuring made-to-order and grab-and-go offerings like burritos, pizza, sandwiches and frozen beverages — will be a focus at the new layout, which the company calls its GEN4 store. QuikTrip’s spokesperson said the kitchen is twice the size of that of a standard location and includes “a new dedicated area for quick food order pickup.”

Beyond food, the GEN4 site will also feature a vestibule and more energy-efficient construction materials, QuikTrip’s spokesperson said. A spokesperson for the City of Crestwood confirmed that the site will also feature 12 gas pumps.

“All in all the added space, better workflow and updated building features make this store layout an exciting step forward for both customers and employees,” QuikTrip’s spokesperson told C-Store Dive. Overall, QuikTrip has 1200-plus stores, including about 70 in the St. Louis market.
