This past October, outdoor retailer REI (Kent, Wash.) opened its fifth flagship store in the NoMa neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The 51,000-square-foot store is just blocks from the U.S. Capitol and includes a 1052-square-foot café, an outdoor courtyard and a community space for in-store cycling, paddling, hiking and fitness classes, among many other experiential features.

This store opening originally appeared in the December 2016 issue of VMSD in the “On Our Radar” section.
