Rock & Republic Showroom

Get an all-access backstage pass to this SoHo showroom, where rock and roll meets interior design.

Rock & Republic’s edgy, rocker-chic denim first took the stage on the West Coast in 2002. For the brand’s inaugural New York showroom, architects at David Howell Design (New York) looked to impart that same luxe edginess with smoky black and brown accents, chunky wood tables and a penthouse level complete with a shredded leather rug and plenty of mod seating.

Spanning the space’s three floors is an exotic macassar ebony wall. Millwork and display boxes filled with studded leather shoes and accessories were also constructed from the dark, striated material, adding to the urban flair. Fixtures feature an inky steel finish with a dark-stained walnut base.

The building’s existing wall of windows naturally illuminates the dark-hued space, but created an issue for the design team. “If the jeans are in the sun too long, they’ll start to fade,” says Jason Roberts, project architect. “So we had to treat the window with a UV coating and install special shades that the client could control.”
