Saks Global (New York) has decided that three stores it had targeted for closure will stay open, reports CoStar News. The stores are Saks Fifth Avenues in The Gardens on El Paseo in Palm Desert, Calif., and The Mall at University Town Center in Sarasota, Fla., and the Neiman Marcus at The Westchester Mall in White Plains, N.Y.

Saks Global told CoStar the decision not to close those stores resulted from talks between it and Simon Property Group, landlord of the mall housing the locales.

“Our approach to optimizing our store footprint remains centered on ensuring we focus our presence in markets with a high concentration of luxury shoppers where we can operate at an attractive level of profitability,” Saks Global said in an e-mail to CoStar. “We look forward to continuing to serve customers in these markets.”

Since filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January, Saks Global has made two announcements of closings of its luxury chains, adding up to 20 Saks Fifth Avenue and four Neiman Marcus stores, as well as virtually the entire off-price units of both brands. The three luxury locations now slated to stay open were named on March 6 and set to go dark in May.
