Sheetz (Altoona, Pa.) has revealed plans to open its first convenience stores in Asheville, NC., a company spokesperson confirmed via email to C-Store Dive. Sheetz is currently planning three stores in the area, with the goal to “five stores in Asheville within the next few years,” a spokesperson for the company told the online news service.

Since opening its first store in North Carolina in 2004, Sheetz’s footprint in the state has grown to about 30 locations. The company’s move into Asheville marks its westernmost push in North Carolina, as most of its stores are near Greensboro, Burlington, Durham, Raleigh and Winston-Salem.

Each location will feature a “restaurant-style experience” with self-service kiosks as well as both indoor and outdoor seating, the spokesperson told C-Store Dive. Stores will also include fueling stations and electric vehicle charging ports, drive-thrus, car washes and more.

The expansion in North Carolina reflects Sheetz’s broader expansion plans, which include its first Michigan locations — expected in 2025 in the Detroit area — and in Ohio, where locales in Toledo, Columbus and Dayton are in the works.

In all, Sheetz owns and operates about 700 stores in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
