Sheetz (Altoona, Pa.), a family-owned gas station and convenience store chain, is opening its first location in Michigan today (Aug. 27), the Detroit Free Press reports. In the longer run, the business plans 50 or more stores in the state in the next few years.

Sheetz has a loyal following in many markets, thanks to such things as its fresh food offerings, competitive gas prices and pervasive use technology. The chain has been expanding beyond its Pennsylvania roots in recent years, adding locales in North Carolina, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia, and now operates more than 740 stores.
