(PRESS RELEASE) MONTCLAIR, NJ — SmartWork Media took home 12 awards in the recently announced TABPI Awards, including the biggest prize of the competition — a gold award for INVISION magazine in the category of “Best Single Issue”.
TABPI judges praised INVISION’s winning February 2023 issue, saying “The issue is easy to navigate and flows seamlessly … The characterization of the discrete sections matches yet is distinctive at the same time. The design elements are captivating and emphasize the eyecare business to readers. Overall, the issue is stellar cover to cover.”
Another TABPI Gold award winner was PETS+, which won in the category of “Feature Design” for the magazine’s November-December 2023 “Big Survey” edition.
“We’re thankful to take top honors in two such critical and competitive categories,” said SmartWork Media publisher and CEO, Matthijs Braakman. “It’s just another indicator of the hard work we do every day to provide our readers with best-of-breed print and online information services.”
“As editor-in-chief, I like to think that every issue of INVISION is award worthy, so it is particularly gratifying when that belief is upheld with a prestigious award like the Gold for Best Single Issue from TABPI,” said Deirdre Carroll, editor-in-chief of INVISION Magazine. “This year INVISION celebrates 10 years serving eyecare providers with the highest quality publication to help them run their businesses better and this honor is the icing on the cake!”
In addition to the two Gold awards, Silver award winners include Big Picture’s Chris Burslem, whose “Overcoming Anxiety” story was honored in the “Feature Article” category; and INSTORE’s Mar Jefferson Go and Ben Villarante for their “Overcoming Anxiety” layout in the category of “Feature Design”, and finally, Mar Jefferson Go for INVISION for “Best Front Cover (Photograph)” design.

In the category of “Best Single Issue: Top 25”, Signs of the Times (March 2023) came in 18th and VMSD (July-August 2023) came in 19th.
In the category of “Feature Article: Top 25”, INVISION’s Heath Burslem (“Mind Over Matter”), PETS+’s Pamela Mitchell (“Help Given”) and INSTORE’s Eileen McClelland (“Cracking the Estate Code”) were also honored.
With 13 awards so far in 2024, SmartWork Media has now earned a total of 200 awards for print and digital media — giving the group one of the highest ratios of awards per title in all of B2B publishing.
“While these awards honor specific issues of our publications, I’m proud of every issue our talented team produces,” said David Squires, group editorial director. “Our goal is making B2B magazines that don’t feel like work to read, that readers are genuinely happy to see arrive in the mail. We appreciate the recognition from the TABPI judges of our hard work and high editorial standards.”
