Sony Windows to Send Holiday Wishes — Literally!

In-store kiosks will allow shoppers to produce customized Christmas greetings

Sony Electronics Inc. (San Diego) will offer customers to its Sony Style Stores the chance to share a holiday wish with family and friends around the country via interactive displays this holiday season.

Shoppers will have the opportunity to create holiday wishes at a dedicated website (www.sonystyle.com/holidaywishes) available via kiosks inside the stores. Choosing from a selection of words and pictures, the shoppers can craft a personalized message to be sent to a Sony Style store of the sender's choice and displayed on a variety of Sony plasma displays and televisions in the store windows. E-mails are then sent to the recipients to alert them of the time and date their message will be displayed at the predetermined Sony Style store. To further the good cheer, holiday wish creators will receive a special discount coupon to be used on SonyStyle.com.

The concept was developed by Sony in conjunction with Syrup, a New York-based design firm. The Sony Style Holiday Wishes will be on display in all 13 Sony Style stores across the country through Jan. 1, 2005.

“The Holiday Wishes window displays demonstrate Sony's innovation and will encourage consumers to venture inside, test-drive our products and inspire them to create their own festive messages,” said Christine Belich, executive creative director of Sony Style retail stores (New York).

In addition to holiday messages, the windows will feature 3-dimensional whimsical stylized characters holding Sony portable entertainment products.

“Our inspiration for the project was to forge design and technology together to allow people the opportunity to connect with one another,” said Robert Holzer, president and ceo of Syrup.
