Starwood Hotels Focusing on China Expansion

Represents company’s second largest market outside of U.S.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (White Plains, N.Y.) plans to double its footprint in Greater China with signed plans for 100 hotels to add to the company’s 103 locations already in operation.

“Our success in China reflects our first mover advantage, the strength of our brands and the entrusted partnerships we have fostered with our developers, partners, and guests,” says Vasant Prabhu, vice chairman and ceo, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

The hospitality company opened its first location in 1985 with The Great Wall Sheraton Hotel in Beijing. Starwood has opened 11 hotels in China in 2012 and expects to add another 13 hotels by year’s end.
