Store Openings: Dick’s Sporting Goods and Dollar General

Athletics and discount chains detail their expansion plans.

* Dick’s Sporting Goods (Pittsburgh) said it expects to open 14 more House of Sport stores and about 22 additional Dick’s Field House locations in 2026. The retailer disclosed those plans in its earnings report for its 2025 fiscal year ending Jan. 31, during which it reported sales of $17.2 billion, up 28.1% from a year earlier, and net income of $849 million, down 27%. During that period, the chain opened 16 House of Sport locations and 15 Dick’s Field House stores. (Results for Foot Locker, which Dick’s acquired last fall, will not be included in the sporting good retailer’s quarterly comparable sales until the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026.)

* Dollar General Corp. (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) looks to continue growing at breakneck speed, saying it plans to open 450 new stores in the United States and 10 in Mexico. It also plans to remodel about 2000 outlets, upgrade roughly 2250 others and relocate 20 or so stores. The discounter detailed its expansion blueprint in its earnings report for the fiscal year ended Jan. 30, during which it had net sales of $42.7 billion, up 5.2% from a year earlier, and net income of $1.5 billion, an increase of 34.4%. As of Jan. 30, the chain had 20,893 stores operating under the Dollar General, DG Market, DGX pOpshelf and Mi Súper Dollar General.
