SEATTLE, Oct. 4, 2018 – The immersive bricks-and-mortar, New York-based retailer Story was announced as the 2018 recipient of the VMSD/Peter Glen Retailer of the Year Award in VMSD’s October 2018 issue, as well as during the International Retail Design Conference (IRDC) on Oct. 4. IRDC is the industry’s leading educational and networking event for store planners, visual merchandising executives and other designers and architects who create and renovate retail spaces.

Story was chosen by VMSD’s editorial advisory board, which includes 50-plus leading retail-design executives. The VMSD/Peter Glen Retailer of the Year Award is named in memory of the retail industry observer, motivational speaker, author and longtime columnist for VMSD (Visual Merchandising + Store Design) magazine. The annual award recognizes a retailer that best exemplifies Glen’s three core retail values: innovation, service and intelligence.

“Story represents the experiential path that physical retail must follow to stay relevant in today’s competitive and ever-changing retail landscape,” said Jennifer Acevedo, IRDC conference chair and VMSD Editor-in-Chief, announcing the winner on Oct. 4 during IRDC’s VMSD Awards Luncheon, held at The Motif Hotel in Seattle.

The feature about Story’s award is featured in VMSD’s October issue, which can be viewed at vmsd.com. To subscribe to either the printed or digital version of VMSD, please visit www.vmsd.com/subscribe

About Story
Launched in 2011 by Founder Rachel Shechtman, Story is a 2000-square-foot store located in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood that features a new theme every four to eight weeks. This includes a complete overhaul of its interior, as well as its merchandise. Modeled after a magazine, Story changes its look, much like an art gallery, yet sells things like a typical bricks-and-mortar store. The immersive concept keeps consumers on the edge of their seats, wondering what the retailer will come up with next. Story has been included in Time Out NY’s list of top 15 New York shops, and was the recipient of the 2014 Rising Star Award for Best Retail Concept for Fashion Group International. Its innovative design and retailing approach has been examined in various publications, from Women’s Wear Daily to The New York Times and Ad Age, among many others.
