Meijer (Grand Rapids, Mich.) will soon open the Independence Market in its home state. Named for the township it’s located in, the 50,000-square-foot store will open April 30 near Clarkston, Mich. It will house a bakery and a café (featuring coffee and Latin street food from Clarkston-favorite Honcho), along with a variety of local, Meijer and national brand items.

T&T Supermarket (Richmond, B.C.) is headed to San Francisco. The largest Asian grocery retailer in Canada, T&T’s fourth U.S. store is slated to debut at the San Francisco City Center in winter 2026. In addition to Asian groceries, including 200 T&T private label items, it will house a fast-casual restaurant. A unit of Loblaw Cos. Ltd., the chain’s three other U.S. locales are in San Jose, Calif., and Bellevue and Lynnwood, Wash.; its Canadian fleet consists of 38 stores.

Vallarta Supermarkets (Santa Clarita, Calif.) will soon take the wraps off another store in Los Angeles. The Latino-owned grocery chain will open its newest store April 23 in LA’s Park Mesa Heights neighborhood. Located in a former Ralph’s supermarket, the 47,000-square-foot store will offer a variety of specialties, including exotic fruits from around the world, a carniceria selling such items as thinly sliced flank steak and a guacamole station. Founded in 1985, the chain now has 59 stores throughout California.
