Supervalu Inc. (Minneapolis) is selling six Bigg's stores and their pharmacies in the Cincinnati area to employee-owned Remke Markets. The grocer also plans to close its five remaining Bigg's stores – four in Cincinnati and one in Kentucky – by the end of May.

Supervalu ceo Craig Herkert, former Americas region ceo at Walmart Stores Inc., has been selling off stores since he took the reigns of the company in May. In February, the grocer announced the sale of 11 Shaw's stores to individual owners and five Shaw's stores to Ahold's Stop & Shop. Last year, the supermarket chain sold 36 Albertsons stores in Utah to Associated Food stores.

The Minneapolis-based company says the Bigg’s sales are set to close this spring. With the purchase, Erlanger, Kentucky-based Remke Markets will have 13 owned and operated stores.
