Target Corp. (Minneapolis) is expected to announce plans to open as many as 200 stores in Canada, The Wall Street Journal reports. During the International Council of Shopping Centers' Canadian trade show in Toronto this week, representatives of the general merchandise retailer met with developers.

Fred Waks, chief operating officer with RioCan, the largest public real estate developer in Canada, told the Winnipeg Free Press that Target is looking at a couple of hundred stores over the next 10 years.

Company spokeswoman Amy Reilly told The Journal that the retailer is “optimistic that our first stores could open by mid-decade.”
