Target (Minneapolis) is opening a new small-format store in Chicago at the newly restored Carson Pirie Scott building, at South State Street and Madison Street East. The iconic landmark, now known as Sullivan Center, will house the small-format location, which is now being called CityTarget.

At 60,000 square feet, roughly half the size of a traditional Target store, the CityTarget format targets commuters, tourists and urban dwellers with a trimmed down selection of fresh food, apartment essentials, on-trend fashions and exclusive designer collections.

The store is expected to open in 2012.

“Target is honored to open a CityTarget on State Street,” says John Griffith, executive vp, property development, Target. “We look forward to preserving this Chicago treasure and blending in with the building’s aesthetic. A hallmark of Target is our flexibility in store design, which allows us to bring high-quality products at great values to our urban guests.”

The Minneapolis-based company operates 1750 stores in 49 states, including 10 in Chicago.
