Target Plans Smaller Stores

In major cities

Published

on

Target (Minneapolis) has announced that it plans to expand its efforts to open its smaller “flex-format” stores. The retailer currently operates 23 of these smaller stores, located in major cities like Chicago and Philadelphia, and plans to open nine more this year. In time, the retailer expects to add hundreds more of these stores to its fleet.

The stores typically are less than 50,000 square feet in size, making it possible for the retailer to open shop in downtown areas where larger Target stores aren’t possible, reports Bloomberg. The stores also provide different products than regular Target stores and merchandise that is more targeted for that area’s demographics.
