Target, Walmart Make Holiday Push

Competition fierce among retail rivals

Walmart (Bentonville, Ark.) and Target (Minneapolis) are leveraging new technology, investing in low prices and trying to one-up each other with exclusives for the holiday shopping season.

Target's holiday initiative includes new apps such as a holiday wish list; free holiday shipping on most purchases made on Target.com; a price match guarantee; daily Cartwheel deals; enhanced iPod and Android apps; and 65,000 items for sale online, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

Walmart polled hundreds of children to find their favorite toys and will cover them on PriceCatcher, it's digital price comparison tool. In addition, the retailer plans to get its Christmas message out through a new “holiday hub,” a production studio that will produce thousands of ads and other forms of content for everything from broadcast television to Vine, under the direction of a former Saatchi & Saatchi executive, WWD reports.
